Discussions over the EU budget took place in Brussels

A summit of the leaders of the EU member states began in Brussels this afternoon. The main subject of the talks is the EU budget for the next seven year budget term beginning in 2021, which is already dividing member states. The Polish Prime Minister, Mateusz Morawiecki spoke before the summit about Polish expectations for the future budget, urging no reductions.

Polish Science Day celebrated for the first time

Yesterday, we were celebrating Polish Science Day for the first time ever. The date is not accidental, because 19th February marks the birthday of Nicolaus Copernicus. This national day was introduced in order to honour 81,000 Polish scientists. The city of Toruń organized a gala of Polish science under President Andrzej Duda's patronage, with the participation of the Prime Minister and the Minister of Education.

Officers of the Central Anti-corruption Bureau entered the apartments of Marian Banaś

Agents of the Central Anti-corruption Bureau or CBA searched two apartments belonging to the president of the Supreme Audit Office, Marian Banaś. The officers of the CBA also entered Banaś’s office. According to the Supreme Audit Office’s spokesperson, both representatives of the Supreme Audit Office and the building’s security were against the CBA’s actions. In a letter to the Speaker of the Sejm, Marian Banaś firmly stated his opposition to such operations which he described as unprecedented.

Opposition accuses the ruling party of not caring enough about oncology

“It’s cynicism and demagogy” - these are the words of politicians of the ruling Law and Justice party regarding the attempts of the opposition to link the budget for public media with an alleged reduction in the funds to treat cancer patients. The opposition has appealed to president Andrzej Duda to veto the bill allocating almost 2 billion zloty for the public media. Such accusations are the easier to make the more the public television doesn't shy away from openly supporting the ruling party. However, the Law and Justice party spends 3 billion zloty more on oncology than its predecessors did in 2015.
