“Butter in a Safe”: Kaczyński Criticizes Rising Costs and Government Policies

Jarosław Kaczyński, leader of Poland’s Law and Justice (PiS) party, took to Platform X (formerly Twitter) to voice his criticism of the current government, targeting rising living costs as a key issue. His post included an image of a butter block locked in a safe, symbolizing the dramatic increase in prices.

“‘Butter in a safe’ would be funny if it weren’t so terrifying. Sadly, it’s a grim symbol of this government,” Kaczyński wrote. He accused the administration of fostering conditions where high prices, expensive bills, and predatory loans have become a norm, despite having been in power for just one year.

Kaczyński specifically questioned whether the return of Prime Minister Donald Tusk heralds the resurgence of severe social issues, such as child hunger, which he described as “the greatest disgrace of the Third Republic of Poland.”

According to UCE Research, butter prices in November 2024 were over 30% higher compared to the previous year, with fewer promotions available. The minimum price for a single block of butter now exceeds 10 PLN, underscoring the escalating cost of living.
