Deputy FM Wojciech Gerwel met with Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Eurasian Affairs Li Hui

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wojciech Gerwel, convened with the special envoy from the People’s Republic of China for Eurasian affairs, Li Hui, at the ministry’s headquarters.

The meeting was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Twitter. Warsaw serves as another destination in the Chinese diplomat’s journey to Europe. In recent days, he engaged in discussions with the Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs and other government representatives in Kiev.

Minister Dmytro Kułeba emphasized that Ukraine rejects any peaceful proposals that would entail territorial loss or a frozen conflict. Following this, Li Hui is scheduled to travel to Berlin, Paris, and Moscow. China is encouraging Ukraine to engage in peace talks.

The Chinese envoy spent two days in Kiev, where he met with President Volodymyr Zelensky. The purpose of the Chinese diplomat’s visit, as declared by Beijing, is to discuss potential political resolutions for the war in Ukraine.

“Poland is concerned about Beijing’s declarations about striving to strengthen bilateral relations with Russia,” the Polish Foreign Ministry said after the meeting. In a conversation with the Beijing envoy, Deputy FM Wojciech Gerwel spoke positively about the recently initiated dialogue between China and Ukraine.

According to the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Chinese diplomat noted that the situation in Ukraine is not in anyone’s interest.

The ministry said that Ambassador Li declared China’s strong opposition to the use of nuclear weapons, pointing to the importance China attaches to nuclear safety and maintaining the mandate of international organizations.
