Development of video game based on the invasion of Ukraine underway

Lesser Evil, a game publisher with a mission to promote titles that tackle important issues, has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the creation of Death From Above. The game will put players in the shoes of a Ukrainian military drone operator, where they will battle enemy forces. A release date of 2023 is planned and a portion of the net proceeds will be donated to Ukrainian charities. After production costs are accounted for, 70 per cent of the remaining sales profits will also be given to charitable causes in Ukraine.

In Death From Above, players take on the role of a drone operator during the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Their mission is to thwart the enemy’s advance by destroying targets, recovering stolen items, and restoring communication networks damaged by the conflict.

Lesser Evil, the developer of Death From Above, is seeking €25,000 in funding through Kickstarter to help produce the game. The title will explore the conflict in Ukraine, though its creators hope its message will be more positive. According to Hendrik Lesser, the founder and CEO of Lesser Evil, video games have the potential to be a tool for political and social activism and Death From Above is no exception.

Death From Above, a recently released game, is working with leading aid organisations, Army Of Drones, Come Back Alive, GIS Arta, and Aerorozvidka to assist people in Ukraine affected by the ongoing conflict. The game’s developers are also planning to collaborate with Ukrainian artists in music and graphical design. A portion of the proceeds from the game will be used to support these initiatives.

To sum up, Finnish studio Rockodile Games and Ukrainian developer Octobear Games are responsible for the game’s production. The publisher of the project is Lesser Evil Publishing.
