In a ruling by the District Court in Gdańsk, former MP Joanna Senyszyn has been ordered to apologize to the families of the “Cursed Soldiers” for defamation and to pay 10,000 PLN in damages. The case was brought against Senyszyn for her repeated derogatory remarks made on social media, in which she labeled the soldiers as “bandits” and “outcasts.”
Senyszyn, who has been openly critical of the Cursed Soldiers, posted inflammatory comments, particularly on March 1—an official day of remembrance for these WWII resistance fighters. In one 2019 post on platform X, she referred to them as “bands of social outcasts and lazy people waiting for World War III.” She continued this rhetoric in 2023, calling the commemorative day “another day of rightly cursed soldiers” and reiterated her claims, stating she was facing two lawsuits “for telling the truth about the murders.”
The lawsuit was filed by the Association of Cursed Soldiers’ Families, supported by the Reduta Dobrego Imienia organization, targeting 13 posts made by Senyszyn over four years. Historian and publicist Tadeusz Płużański, whose father was a Cursed Soldier, emphasized the families’ outrage over the false and offensive nature of Senyszyn’s comments.
Senyszyn is required to remove the offending posts and issue an apology to the eight family members involved in the lawsuit. The plaintiffs initially sought 100,000 PLN in damages but were awarded 10,000 PLN in the court’s ruling.
