Microsoft has announced the launch of the first cloud data processing region in Central and Eastern Europe in Poland. The announcement was made during the XV European Economic Congress in Katowice, which was attended by Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

“I am very happy and I really thank Microsoft, one of the most famous brands in the world, for trusting Poland, the Polish government. For the fact that so many investments – especially the last one, which puts Poland in the center of the region – are located in Poland. This is the best proof that Poland is a magnet for American investments.”,

said PM Morawiecki at EEC 2023.

He emphasized that the investment would speed up technological transformation in Poland and would give the country a chance to be part of the global digital transformation process. The prime minister also stated that the government was keen to have central institutions place at least part of their operations in other regions.

The cloud region, which will be located in three independent physical locations around Warsaw, will provide the highest standards of security, privacy, and compliance with data storage regulations. It will comprise a data processing center and a database construction center for the Financial Supervision Commission.

The investment is significant for the Polish business community, and the government hopes that it will encourage more companies to adopt cloud technology. To facilitate this, the government has announced a €700 million loan program for firms interested in cloud transformation.

The move by Microsoft is a reaffirmation of the company’s commitment to Poland, where it has been present for over 30 years. The company’s investment is not only significant for the Polish IT industry but also for the country’s cybersecurity. The Ukrainian conflict has highlighted the importance of cybersecurity, and the Polish government is keen to develop its cybersecurity capabilities.

Microsoft’s investment in Poland is a significant milestone in the country’s digital transformation journey. It will not only benefit the Polish IT industry but also enhance the country’s cybersecurity capabilities. Additionally, the loan program announced by the government will encourage more companies to adopt cloud technology, boosting the country’s economic growth.
