One Apple a Day: Record-Breaking Apple Tasting in Poland

A record-breaking apple tasting in Poland celebrated diversity and nutrition, promoting health through the “One Apple a Day” initiative.

On November 13, 2024, the Medical University of Warsaw (WUM) set a remarkable record with a relay of 138 participants tasting 10 apple varieties. This initiative promoted diabetes prevention and the “One Apple a Day” campaign, uniting students, faculty, and farmers.

Participants sampled Szampion, Golden Delicious, Gala, Jonaprince, Pinova, Ligol, Lobo, Antonówka Zwykła, Malinowa Oberlandzka, and Mutsu apples. Organized by WUM’s Human Nutrition Department, alongside Lublin’s University of Life Sciences, the event highlighted the role of proper nutrition in combating diabetes.

    A Collective Effort

Key partners included the Polish Fruit Growers Association and the Dwarf Orchard Development Society. Leaders emphasized apple diversity and nutrition, educating participants on choosing varieties that suit their taste and health needs.

“This record is more than achievement; it’s a call for healthy eating,”

said Dr. Beata Sińska. Through fun, education, and tasting, the event brought new appreciation for Poland’s apple heritage.
