President Andrzej Duda’s visit to South Korea continued with discussions aimed at fortifying bilateral relations. Meeting with President Yoon Suk-yeol, Duda expressed Poland’s commitment to reducing tensions on the Korean Peninsula. He highlighted Poland’s role as a neutral observer in regional security through its membership in the Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission since 1953.‘
Strengthening Defense Cooperation
A significant part of the discussions focused on defense collaboration. President Yoon expressed optimism about a second contract for delivering K2 tanks to Poland. This follows a previous deal, which saw Poland receive over 70 K2 tanks, alongside nearly 40 Chunmoo rocket launchers and 100 K9 howitzers. President Duda indicated that upcoming announcements would further strengthen the Polish military with locally-produced, Korean-designed equipment.
Economic and Trade Opportunities
South Korean businesses are now Poland’s largest Asian investors, employing over 35,000 Poles. The leaders discussed expanding trade to sectors like chemicals, space, and agriculture, including Polish drones and autonomous demining robots. Duda also emphasized Poland’s desire to increase exports to South Korea, particularly in high-quality food products.
The visit featured a formal welcome at Seoul’s Yongsan Palace, where Duda engaged with key Korean business leaders. Tomorrow, he will tour Hyundai Rotem and Hanwha Aerospace, Korean defense firms actively contributing to Poland’s military modernization.
