Ignacy Mościcki was the third President of Poland, serving from 1926 to 1939. He was born on December 1, 1867, in Mierzanowo, in what is now western Poland. Mościcki was a chemist by profession and made significant contributions to the field of organic chemistry.
In 1918, Mościcki became a member of the Polish Academy of Learning, and in 1919, he was appointed the director of the newly established Chemical Institute in Warsaw. He also served as the president of the Polish Academy of Learning from 1920 to 1921.
Mościcki’s political career began in 1926 when he was elected as the President of Poland after the May Coup. He was the first President to be elected by the Polish parliament rather than by popular vote. During his presidency, Mościcki worked to modernize and industrialize Poland, especially its chemical industry. He also helped to establish closer ties with the United States, France, and Great Britain.
Mościcki faced several challenges during his presidency, including the Great Depression and the rising threat of Nazi Germany. Despite these challenges, he managed to maintain a stable government and a strong military.
Mościcki’s presidency came to an end in 1939 when Nazi Germany invaded Poland. Mościcki went into exile in Switzerland and later in England, where he died on October 2, 1946.
