Today is the 13th anniversary of the Smolensk catastrophe and important personalities paid tribute and laid flowers to commemorate those who died in the crash.
The Smolensk Epitaph at Jasna Góra is a place of special remembrance for those who died in the plane crash on April 10, 2010 and those who were murdered in Katyn in 1940. Today and here were held anniversary ceremonies with the participation of, among others, Jarosław Kaczyński.
In the afternoon, the Commander-in-Chief of the Police, Gen. Insp. Jarosław Szymczyk together with the Commander-in-Chief of the Border Guard Maj. Gen. Tomasz Praga, Commander of the State Protection Service, Colonel Radosław Jaworski, and the Commander-in-Chief of the State Fire Service, Brig. Gen. Andrzej Bartkowiak paid tribute to the victims of the air tragedy that happened in Smolensk 13 years ago.
Giuli Alasania, the mother of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, made a visit to Warsaw where she laid flowers at the memorials of the Smolensk plane crash victims. The tributes were paid at three locations including the Monument to the Victims of the Smolensk Catastrophe, the Monument to Lech Kaczyński, and the Monument to the Victims of the Smolensk Tragedy of 2010. Accompanying her were Anna Fotyga, a member of the European Parliament for PiS, and Paweł Piekarczyk. Alasania’s trip to Poland was upon the invitation of the Niezalezna.pl portal and the Promethean Award chapter named after President Lech Kaczyński.
