The president signed the Fourteenth Pension Act on Monday. The additional benefit in the fall will be given to approx. 9.1 million people. ‘I can confidently say that this was my election commitment. It’s a big deal that this is happening during a pandemic when the country is going through great hardship,’ said President Andrzej Duda.
‘It is simply a joyful moment for me that just today, on Women’s Day, I could sign an Act, which is essentially a good thing,’ President Duda began.
He noted that ‘if people are given additional resources with which they can meet additional needs, that to him is a very happy thing.’
‘Many did not believe that the 14th pension will be possible. Today it is becoming a fact. Thank you very much, Prime Ministers, that we keep our word,’ he addressed to present politicians.
He noted that the ‘fourteenth pension’ will be in the hands of senior citizens before Christmas.
‘Nearly 94 per cent of pensioners will receive 14th pension. I can confidently say that this was my election commitment. It’s a big deal that this is happening during a pandemic when the country is going through great hardship,’ stressed President Duda.
So-called the ‘fourteenth benefit’ is to be paid in November in the amount of the minimum pension (it will then amount to PLN 1250.88 gross).
According to estimates, 9.1 million people will receive ‘fourteenths’. However, not everyone will receive the benefit in the same amount, because the law provides for an income threshold of 2.900 PLN gross. This means that approx. 1.2 million people drawing higher pensions will have their fourteenth pension reduced according to the ‘zloty for zloty’ principle (i.e., the fourteenth pension will be reduced by the amount exceeding PLN 2.900).
Also, senior citizens will receive a ‘thirteenth pension’ in April. This allowance is available to all pensioners irrespective of the amount of benefit received.
