“Piwnica pod Baranami” is already 65 years old!

“Piwnica pod Baranami”, an artistic cabaret that has become an informal symbol and legend of Krakow, celebrates its 65th anniversary this year. On this occasion, on September 12, the Piwnica’s hymn will resound from the St. Mary’s Tower and the concert “It’s nothing to us, we’ll wait it out…”

The Piwnica’s hymn “This Our Youth” from the tower of St. Mary’s Church will be played at noon, right after the St. Mary’s Trumpet Call, and the jubilee concert will take place in the evening at the Juliusz Słowacki Theater. The concert, as announced by the organizers, will not only be a musical feast, but also an opportunity to trace the artistic phenomenon of Piwnica pod Baranami. September 12 is the birthday of Piotr Skrzynecki.

The concert will feature the entire, almost 30-person band of Piwnica pod Baranami. Most of all, Piwnica’s anthems and hits from the repertoire of Piwnica stars will be presented.

The artistic cabaret Piwnica Pod Baranami was founded in 1956 by Piotr Skrzynecki, in cooperation with students of Krakow’s universities, incl. Bronisław Chromy and Krzysztof Penderecki. “We don’t set ourselves any a priori programs. Freeing ourselves from old patterns, not accepting new ones. This is probably our greatest dream. But most of all, understand and get to know yourself,” Skrzynecki said at the time.
