A national holiday for the heroes of the Wielkopolskie Uprising?

The national holiday is due to the inhabitants of Wielkopolska and the heroes who regained Wielkopolska for our country during the uprising said President Andrzej Duda on Monday. He assured that the draft law introducing the national holiday on December 27 would be immediately submitted to the Speaker of the Sejm.

“The national holiday is due to the inhabitants of Wielkopolska, it is due to the memory of the heroes who then regained Wielkopolska for Poland,” said the President.

He assured that he would make every effort to ensure that the bill introducing a new national holiday devoted to the Wielkopolskie Uprising was “immediately” on the desk of the Speaker of the Sejm, Elżbieta Witek.

Wielkopolska (Greater Poland region) institutions and associations dealing with the education and propagating of history are trying to establish a new public holiday. On Monday, the initiators of the project handed over to the President an appeal on this matter.

Duda said that it was a great satisfaction for him that he could apply with them for the establishment of this holiday.
