Biedronka: PLN 1.5 million for the protection of six endangered wild animal species in Poland

At least 1.5 million PLN will be donated by Biedronka to the Polish Society for Nature Conservation “Salamandra”, which together with three expert nature organizations carries out programs for the protection and monitoring of six animal species: European bison, wolf, lynx, porpoise, owl, and hedgehog.

On Thursday, representatives of Biedronka signed with the Polish Society for Nature Conservation (PTOP) “Salamandra” the first agreement in the history of the retail chain to financial aid programs for six protected animal species. Programs will begin later this year and run through the end of 2022.

The grant of 1.5 million PLN is a guaranteed amount that can be even higher, because Biedronka is allocating for this purpose the entire income from the sale of the book “Let’s Protect Endangered Species”, which began on 7 October in all stores of the chain.

“We live in such a world that civilization is a bit out of our control and we need to save this world. This action serves to preserve nature, but also to promote education among the youngest,” said Marcin Ładak, Member of the Management Board of the Biedronka chain.

The coordination of the project and part of the activities is the responsibility of the PTOP “Salamandra”, which chose three non-governmental organizations to co-operate: The West Pomeranian Nature Society, the Association for Nature “Wilk” and the Professor Krzysztof Skóra Marine Station of the Institute of Oceanography at the University of Gdańsk.
