Wind farms on the Baltic Sea

ZE PAK, a private energy producer in Poland that is currently implementing a shift from coal to renewable energy, and Ørsted, a Danish company specializing in offshore wind energy, have signed a letter of intent to jointly participate in an upcoming auction for the location of wind farms in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea.

In the next step – after obtaining the approval of the anti-monopoly authorities – ZE PAK and Ørsted will establish a joint venture, in which each of the companies will have a 50% stake. The partners will jointly take part in the upcoming auctions for offshore locations on the Baltic Sea.

“Wind energy is one of the pillars of ZE PAK’s strategy of transition to zero-emission energy production and I am glad that we have the opportunity to start cooperation with Ørsted,” says Zygmunt Solorz, the main shareholder and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of ZE PAK.

“By combining local know-how with global experience, ZE PAK and Ørsted can support Poland’s transition from fossil to renewable energy sources, while creating thousands of local jobs and supporting education and retraining of coal workers for green energy,” adds Martin Neubert, commercial director, and deputy general manager at Ørsted.

Currently, there are no offshore wind farms in Poland. However, as part of the transition to a low-carbon economy, 5.9 GW of offshore capacity will be created in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea by 2030 and 11 GW by 2040.
