On Thursday, the Sejm established 2022 as the Year of Maria Grzegorzewska. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the National Institute of Special Education, currently, the Maria Grzegorzewska Academy of Special Education in Warsaw, the Sejm of the Republic of Poland pays tribute to the outstanding founder of special education in Poland – emphasized in the resolution.
It was recalled that Maria Grzegorzewska, the pseudonym of the occupation Narcyza – an outstanding scientist, special educator, typhlopedagogue, typhlopsychologist, and social activist – was born on April 18, 1888, in the village of Wołucza near Rawa Mazowiecka.
“The motto of her life and the lives of subsequent generations of special educators, experts working for people with disabilities, was the statement: +there is no cripple – there is a man+” – indicated in the resolution.
Maria Grzegorzewska died on May 7, 1967, in Warsaw.
“The Sejm of the Republic of Poland on the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Maria Grzegorzewska Academy of Special Education in Warsaw, in recognition of the outstanding merits of its founder, director, and patron, Prof. Maria Grzegorzewska, declares 2022 the Year of Maria Grzegorzewska,” summarized in the resolution.
