The heroes of this unique insurgency were primarily the inhabitants of towns, cities and villages in Wielkopolska (Greater Poland), who unanimously used their weapons to win a free Poland. Without their spontaneous decision, sacrifice and heroism, Wielkopolska would be another German province, said the head of the Ministry of National Defense, Mariusz Błaszczak, in the spot published on the occasion of the 103rd anniversary of the Greater Poland Uprising.
On the 103rd anniversary of the outbreak of the Greater Poland Uprising, in the published video, the head of the Ministry of National Defense, Mariusz Błaszczak, paid tribute to the Heroes of Greater Poland and recalled how the uprising for independence took place, which engulfed the entire Greater Poland and ended with the victory of the Poles.
He pointed out that this year, for the first time, a new public holiday is being celebrated – the National Day of the Victory of Greater Poland Uprising.
As the Ministry of National Defense recalled in the statement, on November 23, 2021, the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda, signed the act on establishing the National Day of the Victory of the Greater Poland Uprising.
He recalled that the outbreak of the uprising on December 27 resulted in the arrival of Ignacy Paderewski to Poznań, combined with the provocative behavior of many Germans.
“The fierce fighting continued until the truce in Trier of February 16, 1919. The fate of the liberated Greater Poland was finally decided in the Treaty of Versailles signed on June 28, which granted Poland most of the former Prussian part of Greater Poland,” said Błaszczak.
