Killing of a Child at 36 Weeks. Ombudsman Demands Answers

The shocking case of the killing of a child at 36 weeks of pregnancy—carried out by Dr. Gizela Jagielska at a hospital in Oleśnica—has stirred nationwide emotions. The Commissioner for Human Rights has stepped in, calling on Health Minister Izabela Leszczyna for urgent clarification. A letter has also been sent to the District Prosecutor’s Office.

Killing a Child Under the Pretext of “Termination”

A so-called “pregnancy termination” was carried out at the Oleśnica hospital at 36 weeks. This was not an embryo or a “clump of cells.” It was a fully developed child—ready to be born. Instead of the right to life, it was given a lethal injection.

The procedure was performed by Dr. Gizela Jagielska, who was recently photographed with Magdalena Biejat—a left-wing senator and presidential candidate.

Ombudsman Responds

An official statement appeared on the website of the Commissioner for Human Rights. Marcin Wiącek is requesting information from Health Minister Izabela Leszczyna. He wants to know whether the ministry responded to the reports of the child’s death in the hospital. If so—how? If not—why not?

“The Commissioner is asking the Minister whether she has taken any action in connection with this case, and if so, he is requesting further details. He is also asking for a copy of the response provided to the Polish Society of Gynaecologists and Obstetricians (PTGiP),”
the statement on the Commissioner’s website reads.

The Ombudsman’s Office also contacted the District Prosecutor’s Office in Oleśnica, which—according to media reports—has launched an investigation into the so-called “termination.”

Oskar Kida: This Was Murder!

The Polish Society of Gynaecologists and Obstetricians has also spoken out, asking the Health Ministry for a clear definition of the term “termination of pregnancy.”

“Guidelines were issued last year, but they don’t explain what we’re supposed to do with the fetus after 24 weeks—are we supposed to kill these children?”
said Prof. Piotr Sieroszewski, head of the Department of Fetal Medicine and Gynecology at the Medical University of Warsaw, in an interview with PAP.

The case in Oleśnica, however, needs no additional interpretation. It is clear-cut.

“This was the murder of a child (…). When a doctor kills a child in the ninth month of pregnancy, that is simply murder,”
said constitutional law expert Oskar Kida today on Telewizja Republika.
