Andrzej Duda: Despite difficult times, Polish-American relations are flourishing. Thank you, Mr Biden, for your strong leadership

Thank you for your presence and your strong leadership, for the strong voice of the United States in calling for an end to the aggression against Ukraine. “We stand with the US, we want to make policy with the US and we are counting on the strong leadership of the United States and the strengthening of Euro-Atlantic relations,” Andrzej Duda told US President Joe Biden.

During the meeting of the Polish and American delegation, President Andrzej Duda thanked Joe Biden for “the visit and support of the United States.” He also thanked the American First Lady.

“I would like to emphasise that Polish-American relations are flourishing despite difficult times. We are the first European customer of American LNG gas, promoting diversification of supply. This is particularly important because of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and Russia’s energy blackmail. We built a gas terminal to fight this blackmail. We are grateful for American support in this regard,” said the Polish president.

“We are continuing to work together in the field of peaceful nuclear energy, to build American nuclear power plants needed for the development of modern energy in Poland,” added Andrzej Duda. He stressed that he believed in a further Polish-American partnership in that programme.

“We have very good business relationships. We have the highest turnover in history in 2021. We are very pleased about all US investments in Poland, just as we are pleased about the American soldiers who are coming to strengthen our flank. We are a serious partner, a credible ally, and that is why we are strengthening the defence of our country. We expect defence spending to rise to 3% of GDP in 2023, we want to continue to buy modern military equipment from the United States and we would also be interested in cooperating with the United States. We look forward to every element of this collaboration,” said, Andrzej Duda.

The Polish President said that the current situation was very difficult.

“The Russian aggression, the great tragedy of the Ukrainian people that we are witnessing with them, is also a great threat to my compatriots. We know what Russian imperialism is, we know what the attack of the Russian army is that our grandparents and parents survived,” Duda said.

“Thank you for your presence and your strong leadership, for the strong voice of the United States in calling for an end to the aggression against Ukraine. We stand with the US, want to make policy with the US and hope for strong US leadership and the strengthening of Euro-Atlantic relations”, the Polish President added.
