Today at 2 p.m. at Central Border Guard Training Centre in Koszalin, President Andrzej Duda will take part in the Border Guard Day celebration. During the ceremony, there will be a promotion to the first commissioned officer’s rank – 2nd Lieutenant of the Border Guard.
In the past, after World War I, the Border Guard celebrated their holiday on National Independence Day on November 11. Now, the holiday is celebrated annually on May 16. The date commemorates the day when the Border Guard started service in 1991.
During this year’s celebrations, the song entitled “Guarding the borders” (Polish: Na straży granic) will be presented for the first time in public. The author of the song’s lyrics is Cpl. BG Piotr Saczek from the Marine Branch of the Border Guard. He was the winner of the Border Guard literary competition. The music and arrangement of the piece were created by Bolesław Szulia. The song will be performed by the Border Guard Representative Orchestra, under the direction of Lt. BG Leszek Mieczkowski.
