A macabre discovery in Mariupol. More than 200 bodies were found in the basement of a block of flats

More than 200 corpses in an advanced state of decomposition have been found in the basement of one of the collapsed blocks of flats in Mariupol in Ukraine’s southeast, an adviser to the mayor of this Russian-occupied city, Petro Andriushchenko, has said.

“During the demolition of the rubble of the block of flats (…) more than 200 bodies of those killed under the rubble were found in an advanced state of decomposition in the basement,” Andriushchenko wrote on Telegram.

According to him, since residents refused to participate in collecting and packing the bodies of the victims, the Russian emergency ministry left the worksite.

“The bodies of those killed were left on the site, through the partially demolished rubble the stench is felt almost all over the settlement,” Andriushchenko described.
