Today, on June 1, Poles celebrate Children’s Day. There is no doubt that the youngest associate this day mainly with the gifts they get. It is also a perfect opportunity to spend time with kids.
Schools usually organize special events and activities for pupils to celebrate their day. What is more, in many places across the country, there are plenty of concerts, contests and other festivals in parks, shopping malls, entertainment centres etc.
Children’s Day is celebrated in Poland on June 1; however, World Children’s Day was first established in 1954 as the Universal Children’s Day by the United Nations. According to the United Nations, Universal Children’s Day is celebrated on 20 November to “promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improving children’s welfare.” Moreover, the United Nations provides information that November 20th is an important date because on that day in 1959 the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. What is more, in 1989 also on November 20th, the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
