The centre of Braniewo (Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship) was evacuated on Tuesday after an unexploded bomb was found in the river. As sappers reported on social media, the dangerous find turned out to be an aerial bomb weighing around 250kg dating back to World War II.

As PAP was informed by the spokeswoman of the District Police Headquarters in Braniewo, Supt. Jolanta Sorkowicz, an unexploded bomb was found in the Pasleka River in the centre of Braniewo. The find is under the surface of the water.

The Historical-Exploratory Association Batory and SCUBAMANIAK discovered the unexploded ordnance in the river.

Dozens of residents of nearby houses within a radius of 500 metres have been evacuated for its extraction. Sappers are already at the site.

    Successful action

“The action of the sappers was completed successfully. Now the unexploded ordnance will be transported to the training ground in Orzysz and safely neutralised there,” it was announced on Facebook.
