MP Czarnek accuses government of risking Poland’s disarmament

“President Karol Nawrocki is heading the Polish delegation to the NATO summit. This is good news, because the United States is the leader of the North Atlantic Alliance, and President Nawrocki’s relations with President Trump genuinely provide considerable room for manoeuvre in efforts to strengthen Poland’s security,” said Mariusz Błaszczak, head of the Law and Justice parliamentary caucus.

NATO Summit: PiS MPs on President Nawrocki’s Role

Law and Justice MPs held a press conference today, during which they addressed the ongoing NATO summit in Turkey.

“I would like to express my deep conviction and satisfaction that President Karol Nawrocki is heading the Polish delegation. This is good news, because the United States is the leader of the North Atlantic Alliance, and President Nawrocki’s relations with President Trump genuinely provide considerable room for manoeuvre in efforts to strengthen Poland’s security,”

said Mariusz Błaszczak, head of the Law and Justice parliamentary caucus.

The politician expressed hope that “both Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski will not damage these relations, because we know perfectly well that Donald Tusk’s government is anti-American and pro-German, and therefore anti-American; our asset, then, is the presidency of Karol Nawrocki.”

“From my personal experience, personal relations and everything that can be agreed behind the scenes are of enormous importance, greater than what we see officially in the statements that are issued. Among our priorities, the most important thing is not to create the impression that there is some alternative to the North Atlantic Alliance. Unfortunately, such an impression, or perhaps even more than an impression, such actions are being undertaken by Donald Tusk’s government. I am referring here to the famous European strategic autonomy. This is a road to nowhere. These are concepts that threaten the security of our homeland,”

he assessed.

In his view, “the United States has proven, including recently, that it is an effective military power.” As examples, he pointed to operations in Venezuela and Iran.

“The United States genuinely sets the tone for the North Atlantic Alliance. To meet this challenge, we must act to strengthen the Polish Armed Forces. We established and implemented the appropriate mechanisms. I am referring to the Law and Justice government and the period when I was Minister of National Defence. Unfortunately, these mechanisms are not being used as they should be. Many young Polish patriots are applying to serve in the Polish Armed Forces, and unfortunately, some of them are being rejected. These applications to serve in the Polish Armed Forces do not later translate into positions in the army. This is because the budget of the Ministry of National Defence simply does not take account of young Polish patriots who want to serve in the Polish Armed Forces,”

he pointed out.

According to Błaszczak, “we should be focused on acquiring American weapons.”

“That was the case under the Law and Justice government. I am referring to the aforementioned F-35s, but also to Patriot batteries, HIMARS rocket artillery, and Abrams tanks. This line of action should be continued. Meanwhile, the 13 December coalition government has focused its attention on Europe. Against President Nawrocki’s position, it pushed through SAFE, a loan that makes us dependent on Germany, to put it plainly, because Germany has dominated the European Union. It restricts the possibility of acquiring equipment, specifically American and Korean equipment,”

he stressed.

Patriot missiles for Ukraine: “They were transferred without the President’s knowledge”

Prof. Przemysław Czarnek, Law and Justice’s candidate for prime minister, commented on Poland’s transfer of missiles for Patriot systems to Ukraine.

“They were transferred to Ukraine without President Karol Nawrocki’s knowledge and without the knowledge of the Sejm National Defence Committee. They were transferred, as Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz said, in exchange for Ukraine’s gratitude. Yesterday, we saw that gratitude from Ukraine toward Poles, toward Kosiniak-Kamysz and toward Tusk, who, it seems, transferred these missiles on the orders of Merz from Germany,”

he said.

He added that, in his opinion, “this is a scandal; this is the disarming of Poland of its most modern equipment, and at a time when the head of government himself is publicly saying that there is a real threat of an attack by Russia, an air attack.”

“This is an absolutely unacceptable situation. It is also a situation that gives us grounds to firmly support the legislative initiative announced by President Karol Nawrocki. Namely: any equipment transferred to Ukraine must be transferred with the consent of President Karol Nawrocki. We will advocate for this. Otherwise, these people – Tusk, Kosiniak-Kamysz, Tomczyk – are simply capable of disarming us. Disarming us, and doing so in a scandalous way, of the most modern equipment that we need to have defensive capabilities in the event of an air attack by Russia. And yet it is precisely the possibility of such an attack, the reality of such an attack, that the head of government is proclaiming,”

he concluded.
