Today, in the Gdansk Museum was the vernissage of the “Masterpieces of Polish Painting” exhibition. The collection includes 65 artworks by the best Polish painters such as Jan Matejko, Jacek Malczewski and members of the Kossak family. The exhibition lasts until October 2nd, 2022.
“Masterpieces of Polish Paintings from Silesia Museum’s Collection. The Fates of Itinerant Exhibition” is a gallery of 65 paintings by renowned Polish painters. It was actually created before World War II by Tadeusz Dobrowolski, a painter, art historian and the first director of the Silesian Museum. However, it was never displayed in the Second Polish Republic. It was first exhibited in 2019, in Łomża.
The exhibition aims to show the artworks from the 19th and 20th centuries that characterise Poles in that period. The paintings are mostly of genre scenes, landscapes and cityscapes. In the exposition are the biggest names of the Polish art scene: Jan Matejko, Józef Brandt, Jacek Malczewski and Olga Boznańska.
The vernissage took place today (June 9th) at 5 P.M. Entry to the exhibition is included in the price of the ticket to the Town Hall, where the display is placed at. The exhibition will be available to see until October 2nd, 2022.
