Belarusian services not only drive migrants to the border but also destroy the border barrier

“They brought us to the border, told us to turn around, and then cut the crossing” – this is how migrants detained on the Polish side report crossing the border. As the Border Guard spokeswoman confirms, the Belarusian services are damaging the border security with specialized tools. “Through such a cut crossing, Belarusian services let groups of 2-5 people through, only in wetlands do they let slightly larger groups through,” she says.

Border Guard spokeswoman Lieutenant Anna Michalska conveyed that, in the opinion of her formation, the strategy of the Belarusian services during the action on the border has once again changed.

“As can be seen from the reports of the migrants detained on the Polish side, Belarusian officers not only drive migrants to the border but also try to force the security measures to clear the way for them,” Michalska said.

The migrants said that after arriving at the border they were left in nearby bushes, while officers used specialized tools to destroy the security. The Belarusians used angle grinders, specialized chisels, and professional work gloves.

“Through such a cut-through, Belarusian services let groups of 2-5 people through, only in the wetlands do they let slightly larger groups through,” the spokeswoman said.

Last year, according to the Border Guard, Belarusian services most often transported large groups of migrants of several dozen people to the border. Foreigners meant to push the borders were equipped with flares, stones and paving stones.

According to a spokeswoman for the Border Guard, the number of attempts to illegally cross the Polish-Belarusian border has recently dropped tenfold, from 800 to 80 attempts per day, as the barrier is an effective method of protection.

“For now, the barrier is ready and we already see results, but for us, the most important thing will be electronics, cameras, motion sensors,” she added.
