Mariusz Blaszczak, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense observed the training of Polish soldiers on Abrams tanks on Wednesday, August 10, at the training ground of the Land Forces Training Center in Poznań. The training, conducted by the US side as part of the so-called Abrams Tank Training Academy, will be attended by a total of about 150 soldiers by the end of 2022, including technical and instructional staff and crews, who will later be the users of the equipment.
The M1A2 ABRAMS SEPv3 version purchased by Poland has specifications identical to the equipment used by the US armed forces. The tanks are equipped with state-of-the-art communication systems, vehicle positioning and battle management systems. The tanks will serve mainly in the 18th Mechanized Division.
In April this year. Mariusz Blaszczak Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of National Defense signed a contract for the purchase of 250 US M1A2 Abrams tanks in their latest configuration, along with associated equipment and a training package.
“I would like to emphasize that when we announced the purchase of 250 ABRAMS tanks for the Polish Army last year, we said that the process of preparing for the Polish Army’s acquisition of these tanks would proceed very quickly, and we have just had the results of these activities. The course has started, the training has started, which gives the possibility to quickly prepare Polish soldiers and Polish technicians to operate ABRAMS tanks in a short period of time,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.
Abrams tanks are the most modern tanks in the world. The M1A2 SEP v.3 is the latest version of the US Abrams basic tank. The high effectiveness of guided fire is ensured by an advanced fire control system. The tank is characterized by strong ballistic and mine resistance, providing the highest level of protection for the crew. The combat weight of the tank is (depending on the solutions used on the platform) about 65-70 tons.
