The priority is to increase the number of births

Preparations of a demographic strategy aimed at raising birthrates and promoting traditional family values will be a major task for the government in the coming year – Family, Labour and Social Policy Minister Marlena Malag reported.

Malag said – according to PAP – immediate work on the strategy will focus on social security and other forms of aid for families. She also mentioned extensive social research plans to determine the impact of family support, including the 500 Plus child benefit introduced in 2016, on birthrates. Malag also said that the financial situation of young families and their motivation to have children will also be examined. Malag said that it was not yet known when the strategy will be ready, but assured that it will be one of the government’s priorities in the new term. She added that its preparation would be divided into several ministries to give it a wider social dimension.
