90 Years of Polish Scouting in Argentina

Celebrate 90 years of Polish scouting in Argentina! Discover its rich history, cultural preservation efforts, and thriving community programs connecting youth to their Polish heritage.

In 2025, the Polish Scouting Association (ZHP) in Argentina proudly celebrates 90 years of activity. Founded in 1935 in Berisso under the leadership of W. Brzeziński and J. Petkunówna, Polish scouting became formally recognized in 1938 by ZHP’s headquarters in Poland. Despite challenges during WWII, when many leaders joined the Polish Army, the movement revived post-war with new Polish immigrants. Under the guidance of S.J. Poray Tucholski and later S. Pyzik, scouting thrived, peaking at 400 members in 1966. Today, its leadership represents generations born outside Poland, reflecting the movement’s deep integration into Argentina’s Polish community.

Strengthening Identity and Community

With support from the Polish Government and Embassy, ZHP in Argentina continues to preserve Polish heritage. Projects include renovating scout facilities, organizing national celebrations, and aiding Polish families in need, embodying the Scout Law of service to others. Youth camps teach Polish language, history, and culture, fostering a connection to their roots. Operating across five centers, including Buenos Aires and Rosario, ZHP remains a vibrant symbol of Polish identity, uniting generations and upholding traditions.
