Katarzyna Zdziebło is the European vice-champion! She won a silver medal in the 20km race walk

Katarzyna Zdziebło won a silver medal in the Women’s 20km race walk at the European Athletics Championships in Munich.

Zdziebło was in the leading group from the very beginning. After 10 kilometres Maria Perez was in the lead, but moments later the Spaniard received her third warning from the judges and had to go to the penalty zone for two minutes.

The athletes struggled with heavy rain for most of the race. After 15 kilometers, Feige, Ntrismpioti, Zdziebło and Olanowśka were in the lead. At 17 kilometres, Ntrismpioti came out on top and gradually increased her lead over her rivals. Eventually, she won with a time of 1:29:03 and won her second gold medal at the European Championships in Munich. The Greek also won the 35 km walk. Zdziebło lost 17 seconds to the winner. Feige took third place with a time of 1:29:25.

Zdziebło in July’s world championships in Eugene won silver in the 20km and 35km race walk, setting Polish records at those distances.
