The Polish sprint team of Marek Kania, Piotr Michalski, and Damian Żurek, won the World Cup Men’s Team Sprint in speed skating in Calgary. With a time of 1.18.90, Poles improved Poland’s national record.
The Poles sprinted marginally ahead of the Dutch (1.18.93) and the Canadians (1.19.40). The Polish trio moved up from 8th to 3rd place in the overall standings (94 points). The Dutch are leading with 108 points.
“The ISU World Cup Speed Skating is a series of international Speed Skating competitions which takes place annually. The Series started in 1985 and usually consists of six or seven events including the ISU World Cup Speed Skating Final. The events take place across North America, Europe, and Asia (…) The results from the World Cup competitions in the first part of the season are the main qualifying method for the ISU Speed Skating Championships and also for the Olympic Winter Games,” we can read on International Skating Union website.
