Poles drop out of Australian Open

The world media and fans are widely commenting on the defeat of Iga Swiatek. The Pole lost to Jelena Rybakina of Kazakhstan 4:6, 4:6 in the 1/8 finals of the Grand Slam Australian Open. Hubert Hurkacz, in turn, lost to Sebastian Korda after a five-set battle.

    Rybakina defeated Swiatek

Iga Swiatek ended the competition in the 1/8 final of the Australian Open, losing to Jelena Rybakina 4:6, 4:6. Thus, the representative of Kazakhstan is the first tennis player to beat the leader of the WTA ranking twice since the beginning of the year.

    Five-set horror

Hurkacz (No. 10) succumbed to American Sebastian Korda (No. 29) 6:3, 3:6, 2:6, 6:1, 6:7 (7-10) after a match that lasted nearly three and a half hours.

It is worth mentioning that Hurkacz achieved his best result at the Australian Open. He gained 135 points to the ATP ranking, thanks to which he “virtually” moved from 11th to 10th place.

    Linette to face Garcia

Magda Linette is still left in the game. The Pole will face Carolina Garcia in the 1/8 final of the Australian Open on the night from Sunday to Monday, January 23.
