For almost a century, “Dąbrowski’s Mazurka” is the official anthem of the Republic of Poland and, despite such a long history, it still arouses patriotic emotions in the hearts of Poles, and is also an element that unites the nation. A few days before the 96th jubilee of the anthem, readers receive the richly illustrated album “Dąbrowski’s Mazurka”. Images, words, notes”, published by the Institute De Republica.
The publication, which was presented on February 16 at a conference in the Press Center of the Polish Press Agency, is addressed to everyone who would like to learn about the extraordinary history of “Dąbrowski’s Mazurka”and take a closer look at the outstanding figures associated with it, including the authors of the words of the anthem, Józef Wybicki and General Henryk Dąbrowski, who created the Polish Legions in Italy.
“This beautiful album is an extremely valuable source of knowledge in the field of universal history, history of art and history of literature . I am very happy that today, on the second anniversary of the establishment of the Institute, I can present it to you.”,
said prof. zv. dr hab. Andrzej Przyłębski, Director of the De Republica Institute.
“This book is addressed to a wide circle of readers, it is not a scientific position for a small group of specialists. This is also evidenced by the iconographic design, illustrations, which I tried to include as many and as diverse as possible. The idea was to make this dry text of the lecture visible, to show what the people, the uniforms, the first prints of the anthem looked like.”,
said prof. Janusz Górski, the editor of the album.
For various reasons, the text of the anthem has undergone many changes over the decades, mainly because it was initially transmitted to the homeland by emissaries who learned it by heart. It acquired the rank of the anthem “Mazurek Dąbrowskiego” in 1927, after the May Coup.
