Every year, World Water Day is celebrated around the world on 22 March. Poles also celebrate it, together with thousands of educational institutions in Poland, raising awareness of global water challenges.
The United Nations is hosting a Water Conference on March 22-24 of 2023, offering a once-in-a-generation opportunity for the international community to join forces to tackle the global water and sanitation problem. During this event, governments, and people from all levels of society will come together to make pledges of action. Additionally, the Conference will introduce the Water Action Agenda, which will provide declarations from people around the globe. (worldwaterday.org)
World Water Day was established by the UN General Assembly with a resolution on 22 December 1992 and is celebrated annually on 22 March.
It was established at the 1992 Earth Summit Conference (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, as part of Agenda 21 to address the global water crisis, in which more than one billion people had no access to clean drinking water.
The idea behind the celebrations is to raise awareness of the impact of proper water management on the economic and social well-being of member states.
World Water Day 2023 is about accelerating change to solve the water and sanitation crisis. Dysfunction throughout the water cycle undermines progress on all major global issues, from health to hunger, gender equality to jobs, education to industry, and disasters to peace. In 2015, the world committed to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6 as part of the 2030 Agenda – the promise that everyone would have safely managed water and sanitation by 2030. (un.org)
