On Tuesday, a Polish government official announced on Twitter that Poland had voted against a European Union Council directive that seeks to prohibit the sale of new petrol-fueled vehicles after 2035.
On Tuesday, the European Union Council passed a directive that would completely prohibit carbon dioxide emissions from new autos after 2035 and almost completely outlaw the sale and registration of such vehicles after that date.
Anna Moskwa, Poland’s minister for climate and the environment, announced that the country had voted against the directive, expressing hope that an audit scheduled for 2026 would lead to its reconsideration.
Moskwa argued that the adoption of the directive was largely due to German influence and would result in a boon to the German economy. She maintained that this was not an action undertaken for the purpose of reform.
