“After a year and a half of research, I became convinced that the Smolensk crash was not an accident. The extent of the plane’s destruction, the traces indicating an explosion, the abrupt interruption of the Tupolev’s ascent, but also the immediate destruction of evidence and the Russians’ unbelievable obfuscation make any other conclusion difficult,” wrote Tomasz Sakiewicz in October 2011 in the pages of Gazeta Polska Codziennie.
For the text entitled “The President Was Assassinated”, the whole environment seeking the truth about Smolensk was attacked. We recall the article in full.
The Smolensk Commission will submit an announcement to the prosecutor’s office about “the attempt on the life of President Lech Kaczyński and the murder of 95 people”. This was informed by Antoni Macierewicz.
He added that the most important evidence, supplemented by the Subcommittee, is the scale of the presence of explosives on the fragments of the plane and the reconstruction of the destruction of the Tu 154M plane.
“We have reached a very important analysis in this case, which was done by officers of the Central Forensic Laboratory of the Police. It identified more than 100 fragments of the aircraft destroyed according to the definitions of explosion destruction. Both TNT, RDX and Pentrite and other types of explosives were found on most of the parts examined,” emphasised Macierewicz.
We recall Tomasz Sakiewicz’s text from October 2011, a year and a half after the Smolensk disaster. This article started a wave of hatred towards Sakiewicz and the milieu of “Gazeta Polska” and “Gazeta Polska Codziennie”, which from the very beginning wanted to know the truth about Smolensk.
“The President Was Assassinated”
After a year and a half of research, I have become convinced that the Smolensk crash was not an accident. The extent of the damage to the plane, the traces indicative of an explosion, the abrupt interruption of the Tupolev's ascent, but also the immediate destruction of evidence and the implausible obfuscation of the Russians make any other conclusion difficult. We do not know who carried out the bombing, but we do know who is politically and morally responsible for it: the Polish and Russian governments. For the past year and a half, journalists working for 'Gazeta Polska' have been trying to establish the causes of the death of the President and the elite of the Polish state. The most important information about the Smolensk catastrophe is still hidden from the public, and key evidence has either been destroyed or is in Russia. Despite this, we learned a great deal indeed. We talked to the most prominent Polish and foreign experts. They included experts on aviation, disasters and terrorism. We reached out to members of government commissions, prosecutors, investigators, as well as many secret service officers. Our journalists transported parts of the crashed Tupolev from Russia. We forwarded some of them for further research in the USA. At the time, we published those documents which we believed contributed something to the investigation. Among the many theories, an utterly frightening picture is emerging. It is becoming clearer and clearer and cannot be replaced by either the propaganda of Ms Anodina or the gibberish of the Miller report. After a year and a half of research, I have become convinced that the Smolensk crash was not an accident. The extent of the damage to the plane, the traces of the explosion, the abrupt cessation of the Tupolev’s ascent, but also the immediate destruction of evidence and the Russians' unbelievable prevarication make any other conclusion difficult. We do not know who carried out the bombing, but we do know who is politically and morally responsible for it: the Polish and Russian governments. The complete lack of security at the airport where the head of state landed made the task easier for potential assassins. In Poland, the assassination theory was ruled out almost from the beginning. This happened when the investigation was handed over to the Russians. No exhumation of the fallen was allowed for a year and a half, waiting until this evidence was worthless. Leaving parts of the plane in the air, and cutting it into pieces beforehand, led to the obliteration of important chemical traces. No one from the Polish or Russian authorities can explain such an action. Nor is anyone able to meaningfully explain the lack of recordings from the air traffic control tower. Regardless of who the direct perpetrators of the assassination may have been, many people in Poland, Russia and beyond the borders of both countries had an interest in the President's death. We know exactly who benefited from the President's death. If anyone is under the illusion that the world today is too civilised to kill presidents, let them look at the pictures from Chechnya, where several hundred thousand people were murdered. Let him see the film about the Russian aggression against Georgia. All this was happening before our eyes. Why have the elites of the Polish state so easily reconciled themselves to the cover-up of the investigation? Because the ones who would not have reconciled were largely in Smolensk. Those of us who survived have to explain the mystery of the deaths of our leaders and friends. They would have done exactly the same for us. I am not presenting my own report on this subject today. I am not revealing new details of the investigation. I am not attaching myself to known theories or any of the unofficial reports. We have published some of them in the weekly "Gazeta Polska" and the daily "Gazeta Polska Codziennie". I am writing about my deepest conviction, which stems from having dealt with this case for a very long time. I would like this reality to be different, for all this not to have happened, for the world to return to the way it was before 10 April 2010. I would like to have wine again with Janusz Kurtyka, to invite Slawek Skrzypek for the long-promised dinner, to listen to another tirade by Stefan Melak or to gossip with Lech Kaczyński at the Belvedere. That is not coming back. Someone brutally took it away from us. But there are 40 million Poles left who need to know the truth. They need to know what is happening in their country, who is governing us and what was done to those who wanted to govern differently. I am convinced that today I have written the truth about this. Regardless of who the direct perpetrators of the assassination may have been, many people both in Poland, Russia and beyond the borders of both countries had an interest in the President's death. We know exactly who benefited from the president's death. In Poland, the assassination theory was ruled out almost from the beginning. This happened when the investigation was handed over to the Russians. For a year and a half, exhumations of the fallen were not allowed, waiting until this evidence was worthless.
