Following the recent discovery of a foreign ballistic missile in a forest near the city of Bydgoszcz in April, Mateusz Morawiecki, the Prime Minister of Poland, has emphasized the need to address the “flaws” in the country’s air-defence procedures.

Marcin Przydacz, the head of the Polish president’s International Policy Bureau, acknowledged the incident during an interview with private broadcaster Radio Zet on Thursday. He described it as an “undesirable situation” that requires thorough examination. Przydacz also highlighted the necessity of identifying any responsible parties and holding them accountable. He further emphasized the importance of improving procedures not only within Poland but also at the NATO level.

During a subsequent press conference on Thursday, Prime Minister Morawiecki responded to Przydacz’s remarks, expressing agreement and stressing the need to rectify any procedural shortcomings. He also expressed his complete confidence in Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak and the military.

The Polish Defence Ministry reported that the missile had descended to the ground on December 16, 2022, but an investigation was initiated only after its discovery. The incident suggests that an airborne military object, likely an unarmed Russian missile, entered Polish airspace.
