Poland’s national football team coach, Fernando Santos, has announced the squad for their upcoming June training camp. The “White and Reds” will face Germany in a friendly match on June 16th and then play a Euro 2024 qualifier against Moldova on June 20th. The squad selection, however, raises a few eyebrows, with notable absences including Kamil Glik, Grzegorz Krychowiak, Dawid Kownacki, and surprisingly, Matty Cash.
In their previous matches in late March, Poland struggled to impress, suffering a defeat to the Czech Republic (1-3) and narrowly winning against Albania (1-0) with Karol Świderski’s goal. These performances prompted Coach Fernando Santos to include some fresh faces and give opportunities to players who were previously overlooked or recovering from injuries.
Among the new call-ups for the matches against Germany and Moldova are Tomasz Kędziora, Arkadiusz Reca, Mateusz Wieteska, and the debutant Przemysław Wiśniewski. In the midfield, Mateusz Łęgowski and Bartosz Slisz will be the new additions. However, the absence of Matty Cash comes as a surprise to many.
Kamil Glik, Grzegorz Krychowiak, and Dawid Kownacki, who have been demanded by both experts and fans, are still missing from the squad. Michał Karbownik, Robert Gumny, and Krzysztof Piątek also failed to secure their spots. These developments hint at significant changes in the appearance of Poland’s national team.
The squad for the Germany and Moldova matches (June 16th and 20th) is as follows:
Goalkeepers: Wojciech Szczęsny (Juventus), Bartłomiej Drągowski (Spezia), Łukasz Skorupski (Bologna)
Defenders: Jan Bednarek (Southampton), Bartosz Bereszyński (Napoli), Tomasz Kędziora (PAOK Saloniki), Jakub Kiwior (Arsenal), Arkadiusz Reca (Spezia), Mateusz Wieteska (Clermont Foot), Przemysław Wiśniewski (Spezia)
Midfielders: Krystian Bielik (Birmingham City), Ben Lederman (Raków Częstochowa), Karol Linetty (Torino), Mateusz Łęgowski (Pogoń Szczecin), Bartosz Slisz (Legia Warsaw), Damian Szymański (AEK Athens), Sebastian Szymański (Feyenoord Rotterdam), Piotr Zieliński (Napoli), Przemysław Frankowski (Lens), Jakub Kamiński (VfL Wolfsburg), Michał Skóraś (Lech Poznań), Nicola Zalewski (AS Roma)
Forwards: Robert Lewandowski (FC Barcelona), Arkadiusz Milik (Juventus), Karol Świderski (Charlotte FC)
As Poland prepares for these fixtures, fans and experts eagerly anticipate witnessing the impact of the fresh faces and the strategic decisions made by coach Fernando Santos.
