In a recent statement to Greek media, forensic pathologist Grigoris Leon revealed that the examination of genetic material would identify the murderer of 27-year-old Anastazja Rubińska on the Greek island of Kos and any potential accomplices.
“When a body is exposed, decomposition occurs up to three times faster than in the case of a buried body,” said Leon in an interview with the Greek public broadcaster ERT.
Will Specific Tests Point to the Culprits?
According to Leon, histopathological and toxicological tests will provide further insights into the crime committed against the Polish woman.
“We are aware that the victim may have been exposed to substances, such as drugs,” stated the expert.
Based on the genetic material collected, which could have been left on items used to transport the body, investigators will be able to determine the perpetrator and any accomplices involved, if there were any, Leon noted.
The Murder of the 27-Year-Old
Late last night, an autopsy was performed on Anastazja Rubińska’s body on the island of Rhodes, confirming the death by strangulation. However, doctors emphasized that the body was in an advanced state of decomposition, significantly complicating the examination.
The main suspect in the murder of the Polish woman is a 32-year-old man from Bangladesh, who has been arrested by the police but consistently denies any involvement.
As reported today by the Kathimerini portal, citing sources involved in the investigation of the brutal murder of Anastazja Rubińska, the Bangladeshi man, the primary suspect in the killing of the 27-year-old, may have removed the handcuffed woman’s body through the rear exit of the house. This exit is not visible in the camera footage.
The suspect in the murder of Anastazja Rubińska, the 32-year-old man, was reportedly seen leaving his home in a panicked rush only to return after 11 minutes. By comparing this timeframe with a map, it was determined that the man could have traveled a maximum distance of 1.5 km. In comparison, the woman’s remains were found approximately 1 km from his place of residence, as reported by Kathimerini.
Following the police sources, the media also reported that Anastazja Rubińska had been tortured to death.
Polish Investigation into the Death of a 27-Year-Old Woman
Polish authorities have initiated their own investigation into the murder of Anastazja Rubińska, citing Minister of Justice Zbigniew Ziobro. The case is to be handled by the prosecutor’s office in Wrocław, the woman’s hometown.
“In connection with the murder of a 27-year-old Polish woman in Greece, I have ordered an investigation to be launched. The District Prosecutor’s Office in Wrocław will handle the case. Prosecutors will immediately request the transfer of evidence from Greek investigators,” Ziobro wrote on Twitter.
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland, Mateusz Morawiecki, announced that Poland will seek the extradition of the main suspect to our country and stated that the assailant must face severe consequences.
“I am shocked by the brutal murder of 27-year-old Anastazja. The perpetrator must face very harsh consequences. Therefore, we will request the extradition of the suspect from Greece, so that they can stand trial in Poland and receive the highest possible sentence,” reads the post by the Polish Prime Minister.
First DNA test results
According to Greek media, Wednesday’s DNA test results confirm that the discovered body belongs to a 27-year-old Polish woman who was killed on the island of Kos. Earlier, it was reported that a 32-year-old man from Bangladesh, the main suspect in Anastazja’s murder case, had been temporarily arrested.
The lifo.gr portal reports the first DNA test results regarding Anastazja’s murder. “It has been confirmed that the body belongs to a 27-year-old Polish woman,” the portal wrote.
This is significant because, as stated by the father of the brutally murdered 27-year-old, the mother who traveled to Greece identified her daughter by a diamond ring. That is precisely why investigators collected DNA from the woman to compare it with Anastazja’s DNA and ultimately confirm her identity.
As emphasized by the portal, further results will soon be known, including evidence collected from under the victim’s nails. They could prove to be crucial evidence in the case.
On Monday, a forensic doctor, quoted by CNN Greece, stated after conducting Anastazja’s autopsy that the Polish woman’s death resulted from strangulation, but it cannot be determined whether it was caused by human hands or a rope.
