Poland’s national volleyball team, led by coach Nikola Grbić, successfully concluded the second Nations League tournament in Rotterdam. The team sought redemption for their defeat in last year’s World Championship final, defeating Italy 3-1 (25-19, 28-26, 18-25, 25-20).
Set I (25-19)
Poland displayed a much-improved performance compared to their previous match against the United States. With Wilfredo Leon anchoring the team, they avoided errors in serving. However, the set was won convincingly by the Italian team with a score of 25-19.
Set II (28-26)
Poland continued their strong gameplay after a brief injury to Paweł Zatorski, who received medical assistance. Bartosz Kurek once again rose to the occasion, with notable contributions from Tomasz Fornal and Wilfredo Leon. Poland clinched a closely contested set with a score of 28-26.
Set III (18-25)
Italy dominated this set, establishing an early lead of 4-0. Poland made efforts to catch up, but their overall performance declined, unlike their Italian counterparts. Simone Anzani’s excellent play, contributing six points in this set, propelled Italy to a comfortable 25-18 victory.
Set IV (25-20)
The fourth set remained fiercely competitive, with neither team managing to pull ahead by more than a single point. Poland took the lead at 13-11 and extended it to a seven-point advantage. Despite some tense moments, the Polish team withstood the pressure, and Jakub Kochanowski sealed the victory with a match-ending ace serve, securing the set 25-20 and an overall match win of 3-1.
Polish Team’s Successful Campaign in Rotterdam
Poland’s national volleyball team concluded the second tournament of the Volleyball Nations League in Rotterdam on a high note, securing a fourth-place position in the standings with 18 points. The team’s next matches will take place from July 5th in Pasay City, Philippines, where they will face Slovenia, Brazil, Canada, and Japan.
