Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW) has made another breakthrough in its investigation into a spy network operating within its borders. A Ukrainian citizen, who has been residing in Poland since 2019, has been detained on suspicion of being a member of a spy network working for Russian intelligence.
On June 21 this year, the ABW detained the Ukrainian suspect, who had established contact with the coordinator of the spy network upon arriving in Poland. The suspect was reportedly involved in surveillance activities targeting critical infrastructure such as military facilities and seaports.
The case, being actively pursued by the Internal Security Agency, is still in progress. ABW officials are working tirelessly to unravel the intricate details of the spy network’s operations and identify all individuals connected to it. Their aim is to dismantle the organization fully and bring all involved parties to justice.
Mariusz Kaminski, Poland’s Interior Minister, confirmed the arrest and emphasized the gravity of the situation. He stated that the spy network was not only engaged in intelligence and propaganda activities against Poland but also planning acts of sabotage on behalf of Russian intelligence. If found guilty, those involved could face up to 10 years in prison for their actions.
“The Internal Security Agency has detained another member of the spy network working for Russian intelligence. The suspect kept surveillance of military facilities and seaports. He was systematically rewarded by the Russians. This is the 15th person detained in this investigation. We effectively protect Poland,”
Kaminski wrote on Twitter.
This arrest sheds light on the ongoing threat posed by foreign spy networks within the country. The ABW’s relentless efforts to uncover the full extent of the spy network’s activities underscore the importance of maintaining strong internal security measures.
