Senator Libicki was talking about the Animal Protection Act. The coalition majority in the Senate (PO – Civil Platform, PSL – Polish People’s Party, Lewica – Left, and non-attached senators) is strongly divided on the amendments submitted by the People’s party.
Several PSL politicians, including Deputy Speaker of the Sejm Piotr Zgorzelski, announced that if the Civic Platform senators did not vote for the PSL’s amendments to the amendment of the animal protection act, the liberal party could leave the coalition that now forms the Senate majority.
The leader of the PSL, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, proposed three amendments that are fundamental to his party. The first concerns the removal of restrictions related to ritual slaughter. The second is to allow representatives of animal protection organizations to enter farms, but in the company of veterinary inspection. The third one, to extend the vacatio legis of the provisions affecting entrepreneurs operating in the industries covered by the amendment to 10 years.
“We are not sure how the Civic Platform party will behave, because we receive different voices from there. We want to announce that this is a very important act for us and we expect from all parties, with which we co-create the majority in the Senate, very far-reaching loyalty during the votes.” PSL senator Filip Libicki said.
