“I am strong because I know I am innocent… I am strong because I believe that one day normalcy will return to Poland, that one day democracy and justice will be restored,” says Dariusz Matecki in a video published today on the social media profile of the PiS MP, currently held in pre-trial detention. The politician shared Easter wishes with the Polish people.
Dariusz Matecki Sends Easter Greetings
A new video appeared today on the profile of Dariusz Matecki, who is currently being held in a detention center in Radom. In the recording, the MP extends Easter greetings to all Poles supporting him. He opens with the words: “If you are watching this video, it means that I have been in custody for about two months.”
“I Am Strong”
“I am a political prisoner of the regime of Donald Tusk and Adam Bodnar, held on entirely fabricated political charges. I planned this video to be published just before Easter, to wish you all the best, a blessed and family-filled holiday. I also want to send my wishes to my family—my parents, my wife, my beloved son—wishing them all the best, asking them not to worry, to know that I am strong because I know I am innocent… I am strong because I believe that normalcy will one day return to Poland, that democracy and justice will return.” – Matecki says in the video.
He adds: “Just as Christ was resurrected and restores our hope, I hope that freedom will be resurrected in Poland as well.”
The politician also touched on the subject of Christian persecution.
“Today, in the context of Lent and Easter, we can also talk about the persecution of Christians. I was put in jail, among other reasons, for helping the Fidei Defensor association,” he claims.
He further explains: “This is an association which, over the course of a powerful three-year campaign, achieved a larger reach on social media than the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (WOŚP), almost the largest in Poland, starting from scratch. This association published a report on religiously motivated crimes. Today in Poland, the Church is being persecuted…”
“Remember…”
In his video, Dariusz Matecki also asks viewers to remember the “political prisoners of Donald Tusk’s regime”—especially during the Easter season. “When, ladies and gentlemen, you sit down at the table with your families this Easter, please remember the political prisoners of Donald Tusk’s regime…” he begins.
“I warmly greet you, assure you of my prayers, and I would also like to mention Father Olszewski, who was arrested a year ago on Holy Thursday, deliberately before Easter, to torment him even further. These are simply gangster-like actions, deliberate efforts aimed at bringing down the Church as much as possible. Warm greetings to you all,” says the PiS MP.
MP in Detention
Dariusz Matecki, a member of parliament from the Law and Justice (PiS) party, was arrested in March this year by officers of the Internal Security Agency (ABW) at the request of the prosecutor’s office overseen by Justice Minister Adam Bodnar. The arrest is connected to an investigation into the Justice Fund. The National Prosecutor’s Office has brought six charges against Matecki, for which he could face up to 10 years in prison. The MP has denied the allegations and submitted a detailed statement in his defense.
Judge Joanna Włoch ordered Matecki to be placed in temporary custody for two months. He was initially transported to Warsaw, then later transferred to the medical unit of the detention facility in Radom.
