The Polish government, led by the Law and Justice (PiS) party, strongly opposes the European Union’s plans for a mandatory relocation mechanism for illegal immigrants and expresses concern over proposed treaty changes that could limit member states’ decision-making authority. These issues were discussed during the second day of the European Council meeting in Brussels, where Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki represents the country.
Immigration Relocation Dispute
The PiS government remains resolute in its stance against a mandatory immigration relocation mechanism within the EU, emphasizing their opposition to forcing member states to accept relocated illegal immigrants.
In addition to their stance on immigration, the Polish government objects to proposed treaty changes that could reduce member states’ decision-making autonomy, particularly concerning areas like taxation, education, social policies, and the management of national forests.
