Significant support for the Museum of Independence Traditions in Łódź

Almost PLN 5 million will come from EU funding for the revitalization of the Museum of Independence Traditions in Łódź. The total value of this investment is nearly PLN 8 million. The contract for co-financing the project was signed by the Marshal of the Łódź voivodeship, Grzegorz Schreiber.

The press service of the Marshal’s Office reminds that the Museum of Independence Traditions is the oldest historical Museum in Łódź. They emphasize that the institution plays an essential role in popularizing historical knowledge, in particular, concerning the ideas of freedom and independence. A museum is a place of education and dissemination of information about Polish roads to independence.

The principal seat of the facility is located in the former building of the tsarist prison, built in the years 1883-1885 at Długa (today ul. Gdańska). It was intended primarily for political prisoners – incl. activists of the Polish Socialist Party and other independence movements. There were gallows in the present outer courtyard.

The revitalization project of the Museum involves conservation works that are to restore the building to its former values. In contrast, construction works and new equipment will adapt it to modern standards.
