Fear in the Third Way. PSL Predicts Trzaskowski’s Defeat

Only a month remains until the presidential elections, and tensions are rising in the “December 13 Coalition.” The latest polls show a clear decline in support for Rafał Trzaskowski, and PSL—as usual—is starting to play for itself. Deputy Speaker of the Sejm Piotr Zgorzelski publicly reminds everyone that it was his party that wanted a joint candidate.

When things heat up, the Polish People’s Party (PSL) once again tries to shift the blame onto others. The fear of defeat is becoming increasingly visible.

According to the latest IBRiS poll for Polsat News, Rafał Trzaskowski can currently count on 30.8% support—a drop of 5.6 percentage points compared to a month ago, a clear sign that the Civic Coalition (KO) candidate’s campaign is losing momentum.

In second place is Karol Nawrocki, backed by Law and Justice (PiS), with 25.6% (a slight drop of 0.3 pp). Third is Sławomir Mentzen from the Confederation (12.4%), who also saw a significant decline—down 5.7 pp.

Just off the podium is Sejm Marshal Szymon Hołownia with 6.6% (up 1.2 pp). Further down are: Magdalena Biejat (New Left) – 5.6% (+3 pp), Adrian Zandberg (Razem) – 3.6% (+1.1 pp), Krzysztof Stanowski – 1.3% (–0.9 pp), Grzegorz Braun – 1.3% (+0.8 pp), Marek Jakubiak – 1.2% (+0.3 pp), Joanna Senyszyn – 1%, Artur Bartoszewicz – 0.4%, Maciej Maciak – 0.2%, Marek Woch – 0%. Undecided voters remain at 9.9%.

Zgorzelski: “Today, We Would Be in a Different Situation”

A reaction was not long in coming. Piotr Zgorzelski, Deputy Speaker of the Sejm and a leading PSL politician, quickly responded to the poll results. His words reveal clear unease but also an attempt to shift responsibility onto KO allies.

“I will remind you that it was our camp that proposed selecting a single candidate from the October 15 Coalition for the presidency. Today, we would be in a completely different situation—not just in terms of polls but also in terms of the fight for victory,” wrote Zgorzelski.

PSL has always been known for political flexibility, but the speed at which it is now distancing itself from Trzaskowski is striking—and shows that nerves are truly fraying in the Third Way.
