Katarzyna Niewiadoma Secures Victory in La Flèche Wallonne Cycling Classic

Katarzyna Niewiadoma, representing Team Canyon//SRAM Racing, triumphed in the 27th edition of the esteemed cycling classic, La Flèche Wallonne, on Wednesday. With a surge of determination, the Polish cyclist surged ahead 200 meters from the finish line, surpassing Dutch rider Demi Vollering and Italian contender Elisa Longo Borghini on an exceptionally steep ascent.

For the 29-year-old athlete from Podhale, this win stands as a pivotal moment in her career. While Niewiadoma has graced the podium of this prestigious event twice before, securing second place in 2021 and third in 2017, this victory crowns her for the first time as the champion of La Flèche Wallonne.

This latest achievement contributes to Niewiadoma’s remarkable record of 19 victories in her road cycling career. Notably, it marks her first triumph since June 2019, when she claimed a stage win in the Tour of Britain. Alongside her successes in classics like the Amstel Gold Race in 2019 and the Trofeo Alfredo Binda in 2018, she has also excelled in stage races such as the Tour of Britain in 2017 and the Ceratizit Festival Elsy Jacobs in 2016. Additionally, Niewiadoma has consistently showcased her talent in grand tours, securing second place in the Giro d’Italia in 2020 and third in the Tour de France in 2022.
