In her first appearance during the debate on the election of the European Commission President, Ewa Zajączkowska-Hernik, a new member from the Confederation party, made headlines with her vehement critique of Ursula von der Leyen.
Addressing the European Parliament, Zajączkowska-Hernik declared, “It’s time someone told you what the vast majority of Europeans think. Your election as the President of the European Commission was a huge mistake, and some are still having a hangover from that decision.”
“Face of the Green Deal”
Zajączkowska-Hernik argued that von der Leyen’s policies were detrimental to the European economy and agriculture. “You represent all the European madness that is making us poorer,” she stated, suggesting that such actions made Europe an “economic backwater.”
A significant portion of her speech was dedicated to the migration pact. Zajączkowska-Hernik emotionally addressed von der Leyen, saying, “How can you shamelessly promote the migration pact that makes millions of women and children feel unsafe in their own cities? You are responsible for every assault, every rape that happens because of the influx of illegal immigrants.”
Before her political career, Zajączkowska-Hernik had been associated since 2014 with Janusz Korwin-Mikke’s party in Radom. She worked in media from 2016 to 2023, including as a journalist for wSensie.pl and światrolnika.info. Since December 2023, she has been the spokesperson for the Confederation party. In the June elections, she gained a seat by securing 102,569 votes and joined the Europe of Sovereign Nations group. Her outspoken debut in the European Parliament is expected to stir further discussions on the European political landscape.
