Polish Anti-Drone System Protects Austrian Grand Prix Airspace

Polish company Advanced Protection Systems (APS) played a crucial role in securing the airspace at the Austrian Grand Prix, one of the most demanding races in the Formula 1 calendar. Held from June 27-30, 2024, at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, the event saw APS’s cutting-edge anti-drone technology successfully prevent potential disruptions.

The Austrian Ministry of the Interior, acknowledging the increasing risk posed by unauthorized drones at large public events, enlisted APS to ensure the safe and smooth running of the high-profile race. APS’s advanced SKYctrl systems, which utilize FIELDctrl 3D MIMO radar technology and artificial intelligence, were instrumental in detecting and neutralizing several dangerous drone incidents.

APS Anti-Drone Systems Ensure Seamless Security at Austrian Grand Prix

APS’s intervention achieved three critical goals: maintaining the uninterrupted flow of the event, ensuring continuous broadcast coverage for sponsors, and preventing any attacks that could have led to widespread panic or logistical challenges. The Red Bull Ring, known for its fast-paced 4.318 km track with 10 turns, attracted 225,000 spectators over the race weekend, making security a top priority.

The success of APS’s anti-drone systems highlighted the growing importance of such technology at mass events. With drones becoming increasingly popular for both recreational and professional uses, their potential to disrupt large gatherings presents a significant security challenge. The SKYctrl system’s ability to detect, classify, and neutralize unauthorized drones ensured the Austrian Grand Prix ran without incident.

APS Showcases Global Leadership in Anti-Drone Technology at Austrian Grand Prix

Commander Dariusz Wichniarek, head of business development at APS, stressed the importance of their contribution: “Anti-drone protection is a vital component of security at large events. Our systems demonstrated unmatched response speed and the ability to neutralize threats, which was essential during a major sporting event like the Austrian Grand Prix.”

APS’s involvement in the Grand Prix not only showcased the effectiveness of its technology but also reinforced its reliability on the global stage. The SKYctrl systems, which have been tested under various conditions worldwide—including by the Ukrainian Armed Forces—have proven their worth in protecting critical infrastructure such as airports and military installations.

The Growing Necessity of Anti-Drone Systems in Ensuring Public Safety at Mass Events

As drone technology advances, so does the need for sophisticated countermeasures to ensure public safety. Drone incidents at large gatherings can result in panic, and disruptions, and even pose direct threats to life. Incorporating anti-drone systems into the security framework of mass events is not only advisable but should become standard practice. Collaboration between event organizers and security technology experts is essential for creating safe and controlled environments.

Advanced Protection Systems remains dedicated to refining its anti-drone technologies, addressing the growing demand for advanced airspace protection solutions. Their success at the Austrian Grand Prix underscores the vital role such systems play in safeguarding the safety and success of major global events.
