    Poczta Polska, the state-owned postal service, is in dire financial straits, as acknowledged by its CEO, Sebastian Mikosz. The company’s current business model, heavily reliant on traditional mail services, has become increasingly unsustainable. Mikosz emphasized the pressing need for structural transformation, noting that delays in addressing these issues have compounded the challenges. The goal is to shift focus towards a more diversified revenue stream by 2027, reducing dependency on the shrinking postal business.


    Mikosz’s plan aims to transform Poczta Polska from a traditional postal service into a courier, digital, and financial company. He criticized previous management for failing to act despite being aware of the necessary changes. The urgency of this transformation is highlighted by the fact that what should have been done over seven years must now be accomplished in just seven quarters. This accelerated timeline reflects the severity of the company’s current situation.

    Workforce Evolution

    To facilitate this transformation, Mikosz has initiated significant workforce changes, including the termination of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (ZUZP) and a voluntary redundancy program affecting 9,000 positions. The focus remains on the 20,000 postal workers and thousands of employees in Poczta Polska branches. Their roles will evolve to include more commercial tasks, such as offering simple financial products to customers, reflecting the company’s new direction.
